Day one was a great start to our trip. Brad showed up at my house last night, Ken and Danny arrived about 7 this morning. We stopped for fuel in 29 and it was already warming up pretty good. We got lucky and hit storm showers over sheephole pass that cooled us all down. We stayed on route 66 to I 40 headed for Needles. When we stopped for breakfast in Needles it was pretty hot again. Right after breakfast we crossed into Arizona and had to have the obligatory 'brad and Johnny crossing a state line shot', there was no argument from the other members of our group as I poured expensive tequila into their shot glasses. Then I40 to Kingman Harley (where Brad and I purchased our bikes 5 or 6 years ago). Kingman was nice, mid 80's with a good breeze. Our original plan was I40 all the way to Williams Az but one of the employees at Mother road Harley (Kingman) suggested the long way through Peach Springs. It was a great move and we avoided much of the worst of the weather...still got wet though. Stopped in Seligman (most likely the inspiration for Radiator Springs from the movie "Cars") and found the Black cat bar. Lots of colorful locals leading to the quote of the day (see posts earlier in the day). Back on I40 and on to Williams where we broke again from our plan to camp and got a hotel....it's threatening rain and one of our group in particular isn't fond of setting up or tearing down a tent in the rain. Fine with me, and we got lucky a new brewing co opened up next door and our hotel have us discount coupons for dinner. All in all a very good day....now I'm off to find that brewing co.
